A week gives you enough time to turn an Agadir rental into a real southern Morocco road trip. Instead of racing to distant cities and back, build a loop with sensible daily distances, a mix of coast and inland stops, and at least one slower day. This itinerary is designed as a framework, not a compulsory checklist.
- Day 1: Agadir.
- Day 2: Taghazout and coast.
- Day 3: Taroudant.
- Day 4: Tiznit and Mirleft.
- Day 5: Legzira and Sidi Ifni area.
- Day 6: Return north with flexible stops.
- Day 7: Agadir and airport return.
Day 1: Arrive in Agadir
Collect the vehicle, inspect it carefully and keep the first day local. Review the Agadir Airport car rental pickup guide before arrival so documents and meeting details are ready.
Day 2: Taghazout and Atlantic coast
Drive north for a relaxed coastal day. Stop in Tamraght and Taghazout, choose a beach and avoid adding unnecessary kilometres. This day is about settling into the road-trip rhythm.
Day 3: Taroudant
Head inland to Taroudant for a change of scenery. Use our Agadir to Taroudant guide for the basic route and timing. Stay overnight if you want an easier morning, or return toward Agadir if you prefer one base.
Day 4: Tiznit and Mirleft
Drive south toward Tiznit, then continue to the coastal town of Mirleft. Take breaks, refuel in larger towns and avoid treating the journey as a race. This section sets you up for the dramatic coast farther south.
Day 5: Legzira and Sidi Ifni area
Visit Legzira with attention to tide and cliff conditions, then continue toward Sidi Ifni if time and energy allow. Read the full Agadir to Legzira driving guide before setting out.
Day 6: Return north slowly
Use the return as a travel day with optional stops rather than driving straight through. If you missed Tiznit or a beach on the way south, this is your second chance. Stay in Agadir on the final night if your flight leaves the next day.
Day 7: Agadir and vehicle return
Keep the final day simple: breakfast, a short local drive, refuel and return the car with time to spare. Long-distance driving on departure day is a poor trade between sightseeing and reliability.
Which car is best for a 7-day trip?
Choose for comfort and luggage. Two travellers can manage with a compact car, but a family may appreciate a larger sedan or SUV. If there are six or seven passengers, start with the 7-seater car rental guide. Standard paved routes do not automatically require a 4×4.
Road-trip safety and documents
Carry your licence and rental documents, keep water in the car and avoid unnecessary night driving on unfamiliar roads. Current UK travel advice notes the need for a 1968 IDP for UK drivers and recommends carrying relevant vehicle documents. Travellers from other countries should check their own official guidance. See Morocco road travel advice.
Budgeting the week
Calculate the total rental rate, fuel, accommodation and parking. A longer rental can change the average daily price, so compare the actual quote rather than multiplying one advertised daily figure. See Agadir car rental prices for the cost factors.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is seven days enough for southern Morocco from Agadir?
Yes for a focused loop through nearby inland and coastal destinations. It is not enough to comfortably cover every major Moroccan city.
Can I add Marrakech?
You can, but it creates a different loop and more driving. Consider extending the trip if Marrakech is a priority.
Do I need a 4×4?
Not for the standard paved routes described here.
Is Legzira a day trip or overnight stop?
It can be a long day trip from Agadir, but an overnight around Mirleft or Sidi Ifni gives you a more relaxed pace.
Where should I spend the final night?
Agadir is practical if you fly from Al Massira Airport the next day.
Choose a car for a 7-day Morocco road trip or explore car rental in Agadir before you travel.
Make the loop slower by adding two-night stops
A seven-day road trip does not require six different hotels. Two nights in one coastal base can make the journey much more enjoyable, particularly around Mirleft or another area you want to explore on foot. Fewer check-ins also mean less time packing and guarding luggage between rooms.
How much driving per day is reasonable?
There is no universal limit, but vacation driving feels different from commuting. Scenic roads, meal stops and unfamiliar towns make a 150 km day longer than the number suggests. Keep at least one short-driving day in the itinerary and avoid stacking the two longest legs back-to-back.
Prepare for areas with weaker connectivity
Download offline maps, save accommodation phone numbers and keep key addresses in a screenshot. Mobile coverage is generally useful but should not be the only thing connecting you to your next hotel. Carry a charger or power bank and do not let the phone reach five percent just as the road forks.
A seven-day vehicle check every morning
- Walk around the car for visible damage or low tyres.
- Check fuel before leaving town.
- Remove loose items from the dashboard.
- Confirm the day’s first destination.
- Make sure licence and rental papers are with you.
- Keep drinking water accessible.
